Inaugural R. Senathi Rajah Memorial Oration on “International Financial Centres”
View(s):The first memorial oration of the R. Senathi Rajah Memorial Trust is due to be delivered by Prof. M. Sornarajah, CJ Koh Professor of Law at the National University of Singapore on Friday, April 5 at 5.30 p.m. at the Lotus Room -Committee Room ‘B’- BMICH, Colombo.

The oration, organized under the auspices of the Trust is on the topic – “International Financial Centres and Specialized Legal Regimes: Is Sri Lanka Ready?” The oration is held to commemorate the multifaceted contribution of the late R. Senathi Rajah whose name is synonymous with the development of corporate, commercial and financial law in Sri Lanka, the Trust said in a media release.
Mr. Senathi Rajah was acknowledged as one of the preeminent professionals in many fields of law. He was recognized as an expert in Banking and Finance, Capital Markets, Corporate and Commercial Law, Insurance Law, Labour and Employment Law, Litigation and Arbitration, Mergers and Acquisitions, Taxation and Probate. His clients and interlocutors included leading national and international institutions.
His more than 50 years of service to Messrs. Julius and Creasy led to the firm becoming one of the most sought after legal advisory services in the country. Most of the lawyers who came under his tutelage and supervision now adorn exalted positions in the corporate legal sector.
The inaugural oration is organised by the Trustee of the “R. Senathi Rajah Memorial Trust”, Jacey Trust Services (Pvt) Ltd.
The focus of Prof. Sornarajah’s academic and practicing career was in public international law. He has published several books with the Cambridge and Oxford University Presses. He has been counsel or arbitrator in many disputes involving states and multinational corporations in the oil, construction and services sectors. He has sat on tribunals of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (Washington), the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
