Special police plan for N’Eliya during April ‘Spring Festival’

Over 1,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed under the master plan for the forthcoming April ‘Spring Festival’ to be held in Nuwara Eliya in April.
The ‘Spring Festival’ will commence on April 1 and will continue till the end of April.
According to SP I.B.T.Sugathapala, of the Nuwara Eliya police, the security plan will have nine security zones for Nuwara Eliya town with four road barriers, eleven parking spaces, six police checkpoints and a 24-hour security surveillance in operation during the period of the festival.
Maximum utilization of subways will be implemented under traffic arrangements to ensure the smooth flow of traffic entering the town.
The Special Task Force (STF) will carry out a 24-hour programme to eliminate environmental damage and public misbehaviour, and prevent grave crimes during the period.
At the inauguration of the programme distinguished guests will be led by mounted police escort and the police band will be in attendance at the inauguration ceremony.
The annual motor car race is scheduled to take place on the 27th and 28th of April. Special traffic arrangements will be put in place for the event.
