Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), the country’s key conference and exhibition facility in Colombo, will undergo a Rs.300 million upgrade, its Director General Sunil Dissanayake said. He told the Business Times that the money would be allocated for the upgrading of the facility including purchasing new equipment and refurbishing the centre during the course of this year.

He noted that they would be replacing outdated equipment and that the entire facility will be re-carpeted. The sound system would be upgraded to meet today’s requirements and they would also be investing a further Rs. 80 million to purchase new generators to the conference facility. Another interesting feature would be the replacement of the Nuga Sevana that would be upgraded as well, he said.

During this time the Nuga Sevana will remain closed for a period of six months in 2020, Mr. Dissanayake said. At present the conference and exhibition facility has 23 indoor venues and 12 outdoor venues and will be playing host to one of the biggest events since the Non Aligned Summit in Colombo, the CITIES or the global wildlife conference scheduled to commence later this year.
