The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), is now accepting applications from schools across the country for the 2019 Business Plan Competition, which has built a reputation as an important platform to nurture entrepreneurial skills among the student population.

The competition is open to students sitting for the local GCE Advanced Level examination in 2019/2020 from the commerce stream. Schools interested to participate in the competition can submit their applications to the institute on or before January 25. Each participating team must comprise four students, who must present a business plan to the panel of judges in English at both the regional and national levels, the organisation said in a media release.

The competition will be held in three rounds, regional, semi-final and the grand finale. The QUT Business School of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane has once again come onboard as the Strategic Partner of the 2019 competition, which is organised in association with the Sri Lanka and Australia Chamber of Commerce (SLACC).

The winner of the grand finale of the CA Sri Lanka competition, will fly to Brisbane, Australia on an all sponsored trip to take part in the BlueShift Case Competition organised by the QUT Business School in May 2019. Winners of the 2017 and 2018 competitions, Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy and Ananda College, Colombo flew to Brisbane to take part in the BlueShift competition.

“The competition has been organised to encourage and educate students on the importance of preparing a business plan which is also an important segment of the local A/L Business Studies syllabus. The competition will help students apply into practice the knowledge gained at the classroom level while the competition will also be an important platform to showcase their presentation skills. The institute had engaged a very prominent panel of university lecturers to have set out the necessary guidelines for the competition in line with the G.C.E Advanced Level syllabus.

The ultimate aim of this initiative is to find true entrepreneurial talent which is lacking in Sri Lanka, apart from being a guiding force to support and help students become visionary entrepreneurs to help boost Sri Lanka, and its economy,” CA Sri Lanka said. Interested teams representing schools who wish to take part in the competition can download the entry kit from www.casrilanka.com
