New coins in the denomination of Rs. 1, Rs.2, Rs.5 and Rs.10 have been issued for 2019 by the Central Bank.

These coins can be obtained from any commercial bank branch and can be used for payments amongst other currency notes and coins in circulation.

The bank in a public announcement said the diameter and thickness of the coins have been changed to maintain a progressive pattern with the denomination and different edges are incorporated for easy identification by visually impaired people.

The coins are made of stainless steel which gives more durability than plated coins and light finish gives more portability in a wallet. Its cost of production has been minimised with usage of stainless steel which is less expensive than other metals and by reducing the size and the weight of coins.
