Human relationships
Every human being has relationships since he or she is born. Our first relationship is with our parents. As we grow up we form more relationships with siblings, cousins and friends. When we go to school we get a new relation. They are our teachers. As we grow older, we form even more relationships. The amount of relatives a person has cannot be counted.

There are many things to remember if we need happy relationships. We need to treat others as equal. We need to respect and understand their feelings. We must stay close to our family and look after them with kindness. We must believe in one another and help each other. We must be calm in all situations. If we follow these ideas, I think we could lead a great life and enjoy relationships.

My messy room
I have a little room
Which is always messy too
Mum always gives a broom
To clean the room too

Books on the table
Clothes on the floor
Pens on the toy cradle
And socks hung on the door

Once my things were lost
And I found it on my own
But that day I was very cross
When my mother said I was smart

My best time of the year
My best time of the year is Christmas. Christmas is celebrated on December 25.
Jesus Christ was born on Christmas Day. Christmas is all about helping people and making them happy by giving them love and care.
I like Christmas because of snow and the presents. I like decorating the Christmas tree and waiting for Santa to come with a bag full of presents. During Christmas we make yummy Christmas treats and make a snowman. The most important aspect of Christmas is caring for others. I love the Christmas season.

Christmas
Christmas is one of the main festivals in the world. Christmas is celebrated on December 25 every year. It is held to mark the birth of Jesus. On this day Christians go to church to pray to God. People make Christmas trees and
Christmas cards. Most Christians wear new clothes and make Christmas cake. At night, people sing Christmas carols. On that day they give sweetmeats and presents to the poor.
People enjoy a lot during this season.

Horses
Horses are beautiful animals and they can run fast. Horses help us in many ways. People ride on them. Earlier people used horses for wars and they did not have vehicles so they used to travel by horses sometimes. Horses are used to carry loads. They help farmers in their fields.
Horse neigh and they live in stables. Horses are mammals. When people travelled long distance by horses, they put horse-shoes on to the feet of the horse. Kings often used horses to travel from place to place. Tame horses are friendly and wild horses are dangerous.
We must protect these animals.

Climate Change
Sri Lanka underwent severe droughts this year. There were many problems with agriculture due to the lack of water and so farmers complained of their harvests decreasing due to this. There were power-cuts since the power stations were not getting enough water to produce electricity.

Subsequently many changes occurred in the climate with drought in some areas and heavy rainfall in different parts of Sri Lanka. Temperature rising, sea levels increasing and extreme weather events such as floods, cyclones, landslides and issues such as saltwater intrusions occurred.

In some parts of Sri Lanka where there were floods and landslides, many people lost their homes and furniture. Children lost their books and clothes. People were careless, they did not have proper garbage disposal systems, due to the rainfall and flooding, the scattered garbage went and blocked drains. This was one reason for floodwater not draining to the sea.

Heavy rainfall made the water levels rise, which in future could cause destructive erosion, wetland flooding and loss of habitat.
So, as citizens of Sri Lanka, let’s all join hands and protect Mother Nature for the coming generations by reducing air, land and water pollution by keeping our surroundings clean.

It’s Christmas time again…
Can you hear the bell?
Jingle bells, bells
Here comes Santa!
Christmas relates the nativity of Jesus. If I simply explain what is Christmas, it is a season that fulfills everything in all aspects.
Long time ago in Bethlehem a man named Joseph and his wife Mary lived. Mary gave birth to Jesus. On this day shepherds and three wise men came to worship Jesus Christ with precious gifts. So the day we commemorate the birth of Jesus is called as ‘Christmas Day’.
Children eagerly wait for Christmas because they love to unwrap Santa’s gifts, play with snowballs and make snowmen. Christmas carols lighten the season with melodious voices.

It is the time of God the father showing his love to mankind. The true meaning of Christmas is not the extravagant gifts, the beautiful decorations or the lavish food, but it is the knowledge that God loves His children. Christmas is not only for Catholics but for all to share their love with others. Good begins in the heart in Christmas time. Wish you a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

Adam’s Peak
The famous mountain Adam’s Peak is also named as Samanala Kanda and Siri Pada. It is the second tallest mountain in Sri Lanka. Actually it is not the second tallest but lots of books say that Adam’s Peak is the second tallest.

This is a sacred place related to all four religions in Sri Lanka. Myths about Samanala Kanda are different from one religion to another. The four main rivers, Mahaweli, Kelani, Kalu and Walawe originate at the top of Adam’s Peak. This is named as a cultural heritage. So, as school children we must protect this famous mountain.

Flowers
Our world would be bare without them. There would be no life without them. Yes, flowers mean a lot to human life. Without flowers, life on Earth would be different than we see it today.

It is true that flowers bring beauty to Earth. Just green would not give a perfect blend of colours to this world. What really happens is that the lush colours of trees are highlighted with the wonderful colours of flowers. That is when their true beauty is revealed.

Beauty isn’t the only thing plants offer. Did you ever think about it; life on earth would be impossible without flowers. As the life cycle of a plant goes on, we know that flowers play a major role. It produces the pollen, from which a fruit is produced, with the help of insects. If this flower did not exist, fruits may not appear in our world. Imagine that! A majority of trees produce flowers. If they don’t, they wouldn’t be the same as we see them now.

Not only do they bring beauty to our world and happiness to our minds, flowers help us live in this world. We must be able to grow flowers as much as possible, so that it can play a major part in our minds and our world and our lives.

My sister’s birthday
My sister’s name is Subodhi Weerasekara. She used to write essays to Funday Times newspaper when she was a little girl.
Five days before my sister’s birthday I made lots of surprises. I made beautiful videos using her childhood photos. My sister’s birthday falls on September 29.

I made lots of preparations. I got lots of animal shaped balloons. And I thought to make a biriyani and a yummy cake on her birthday. Because my sister is a book lover we bought her lots of books. I wrapped all the gifts with a beautiful wrapping paper.
Then it was the time my sister was born. We all were hiding. We all said happy birthday together. She said that this was her best birthday. We celebrated her birthday in a special way because she is wonderful and special.

A rainy day
A rainy day is a very cold day. Before rain
the environment gets dark and wind blows. Some trees fall down. Some birds’ nests break. Birds are flying to their nests. They are chirping
and flying. People are coming back to their houses.
At that time we can hear thunder. People take clothes inside. And small rain drops fall down and a big rain comes.

Small children make boats and put into water and float them. Children and people wear raincoats, jerseys, jackets because of the cold. We can play in water puddles when it’s raining.
