Kotte MC passes 2019 budget

The Kotte Municipal Council last week approved its 2019 budget with 22 members of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) and 17 members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) voting in favour.

Eleven Councillors of the United National Party (UNP), walked out at the time of the voting. The three JVP Councillors voted against. A UNP Councillor who was abroad was not present on voting day.

Mayor of Kotte Municipal Council, Mr. Madura Vitanage in his budget speech said, the Council was expecting a revenue of Rs 1,441 million during 2019.

The main income revenue was derived from property tax amounting to Rs. 230 million, Rs. 300 million from stamp duty on property transactions, Rs. 25 million from advertising and Rs. 36 million as Court fines.

In addition to these funds the council intends allocating of Rs. 10 million from the Urban Development Fund to construct a modern canteen.
