Peace Air to activate AOC to operate airline

Peace Air is trying to activate its licence to operate an airline, officials said.

“This will be Sri Lanka’s first privately owned airline and we are working with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to activate our Air Operating Certificate (AOC) to enable us to operate next year,” Chairman Peace Air Pvt Ltd, Gamini H. Wethasinghe told the Business Times. He said this on the sidelines of the signing of an agreement on an intended helicopter purchase and maintenance by Peace Air on Tuesday. Peace Air signed a funding agreement to buy five helicopters with a Chinese firm.

He added that Peace Air will be operating daily direct flights to five destinations in China and has plans to fly to most European destinations when they eventually start operations. He added that Peace Air intends to tie up with Chinese travel agencies to market routes in China.

Mr. Weththasinghe by about two months a new 747 aircraft – Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will come to Colombo. Peace Air has placed an order for another brand new 747 aircraft with Boeing and will buy eight other aircraft which will be Chinese funded. He said that they will initially obtain US$ 2 billion investment from US and Chinese investors for the aircraft operation.
