Old Weseleyite SC, Capri life membership for veteran motor sports star Sinnathuray

The annual general meeting of the Old Wesleyite Sports Club was held recently. The meeting was chaired by Farman Cassim, who was reelected for the ensuring year as the president of the club. At this meeting Ranil Thilakaratne was reelected as honorary Secretary. Five old Wesleyites were elected as honorary life members. They are L.C.R. Wijesinghe, L.R. Gunatilleke, B.M. Jurampathy (ex-DIG), Rajah Sinnathuray, JP, and P.B. Herat.

Mr. Sinnathuray was unanimously elected as honorary life member by Capri Club members at the club’s annual general meeting. He has been a member of the club for the past 47 years. Mr. Sinnathuray was a 250cc motorcycle champion and had won races in Chennai, Coimbatore and Bangalore. In Sri Lanka, he had won the Katukurunda circuit race and the Mahagastota, Karundapone and Hantane hill climbs. At the Mahagastota race, he came first in the 125cc class, 250cc class and the 350cc class. Riding a Triumph Tiger 100, he also won the 500cc class. At the same meet, he drove a Ford Anglia and won the Annesley Philips Shield. He had been the president of the Ceylon Motorcycle Club, secretary of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club and president of the controlling body for motor sport in Sri Lanka.
