Killer Whale and Visakha head Junior National Swimming
View(s):Killer Whale Aquatics with 251 points headed the Boys Team Rankings and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo scoring 272 points headed the Girls Team Rankings at the National and Junior National Swimming Championship 2018 concluded at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex last Sunday.
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo led the Girls Under 15 Team Scores with 160 points followed by Lyceum Intl’ School, Wattala with 157 points. Nalanda College, Colombo with 171 points were well ahead in the Boys Under 15 Team Scores with 171 with St. Joseph’s College, Colombo with 127.50 occupied the second spot.
Six new records were established at the Meet three in the individual swimming events and three in the relay events. Akithmi Wasalathanthri lowered the record set by Ganga Senevirathne of Visakha Vidyalaya with a time of 1:12.99mts last year in the Girls Under 15 100m Backstroke event with a new time of 1:12.64mts. The second record of the championship was established by M.K.P. Adithya Perera of De Mazenod College in the Boys Under 15 100m Backstroke event timing 1:04.11mts. Previous record was held by Shevinda Silva of St. Joseph’s College (1:05.57mts).
Nisha Nilaweera of Stafford International School set up the third record of the event in the Girls Under 15 50m Freestyle event timing 29.25secs and the records of the two relay events were set by Lyceum Intl’ School ‘A’, Wattala in the Girls Under 15 400m Freestyle event with a time of 4:53.13mts and Visakha Vidyalaya ‘A’ established two records in the Girls 200m Freestyle relay timing 1:56.62mts and with a time of 2:10.35mts in the Girls 200m Medley Relay. – Lakshman Ranasinghe
