Pulz Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, a Sri Lankan research and development company specialising in artificial intelligence, imaging and speech driven applications, has won three outstanding awards for its patented “TeleAvatar Technology”.

Kumar Navaratnam and his team.

It received a gold medal for Research and Development at the 2018 NBQSA Awards at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo on October 19; an award for Digital Marketing Technology, at the 2018 Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards in Guangzhou, China on October 13 and the 2018 Presidential Award for Invention, at the BMICH in Colombo on October 26, 2018.

The TeleAvatar Technology holds patents in the US and Sri Lanka, with patents pending in the UK and India. This innovation uses artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and dynamic image processing to create a photorealistic digital version of any real person, be it a brand ambassador, a celebrity or even yourself. This digital person or TeleAvatar, changes the way we interact with any digital platform allowing us to converse with technology, in multiple languages including Sinhala and Tamil, as if it were one person to another, the company said in a media release.

Applications of this technology include information kiosks at shopping malls, banks and airports, consumer and corporate websites, display ads that come alive and talk to customers, customer on-boarding applications, and even ATMs that allow people to simply talk in the language of their choice to request information or be guided through a task.

Commenting on the accolades, Pulztec founder and CEO Kumar Navaratnam, said: “The team and I are delighted to have received these three awards and it propels us to continue to innovate and showcase the capabilities of our nation. The flexibility of this technology is appealing in a variety of industries where customers can now engage with digital applications, regardless of their technological know-how, as though they were interacting with another person. If you have ever imagined what Siri or Alexa would look like as a person, well now, you can actually experience them as the person of your choice.”
