At the IDE School in Rajagyria, children suffering from various mental disorders such as Autism, Downs Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy are taught and guided with loving hands towards being able to function independently in  society.

The school has a professional staff of trained teachers and visiting therapists under the guidance and supervision of Principal, Kanthi Perera. Therapies include speech and language, occupational, music and movement.  The school is assisted in administration and fund raising by a group of volunteers.

The Principal and teachers are paid little in monetary terms as the school struggles to make ends meet, receiving no government funding whatsoever. At the moment, the School is operating from rented accommodation.

To help continue their work, a musical concert will be held at the Barefoot Cafe in Colombo 3 on Friday, November 2 at 7.30 p.m. All the funds raised will go towards the running of the school.

Bakery

Bakery, ‘an oddly shaped ensemble…’ of highly talented young musicians comprises Shala Amarasuriya, Charith Fernando, Aaron Nonis and Gyles Dharmaratne.

Diarra Wickremasinghe who loves to make others happy with her music, was born into a musical family and learned the ukelele all  by herself, after her mother gifted it to her three years ago. The music she plays ranges across all genres with her own little touch added.

SLIPS who played at the last IDE Benefit will play this time again! A gathering of musicians who can cheer you up, no matter what your mood is.

Representing the West Side, Unscripted have their roots deeply embedded in Kotte. They specialise in Hip Hop/Rap and Funk and broaden their horizons into Funk, Soul, Jazz and RnB sound as well. Unscripted comprises Shamika Makalanda (lead-guitars), Shane Von Vincent (vocals-guitars), Charith Fernando (beats-drums), Saveen Makalanda (groove-bass), Joel Fernando (Guitars-Vocals) & KK (flow-rap).

Catch them all at Barefoot on November 2 in aid of the IDE School.
