Gavin Karunanayake and Azquiya Usuph won the prestigious Lions Award for Boys’ and Girls’ respectively at the inaugural Sports Colours and Awards Ceremony of the British School in Colombo (BSC) held at the School Auditorium recently.

The awards were presented by former Captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team and Wisden Cricketer-of-the-Year Mahela Jayawardene, who was the Chief Guest at the occasion.  Promising swimmer Gavin had the distinction of representing the country in a number of international aquatic events while Azquiya also had an outstanding year both in swimming and athletics.

Over 120 students in Year-7 to Year-11 were awarded Sports Merits by Jayawardene and the outgoing Sports Captains were also recognised for their steadfast support and inspirational leadership over the year. In addition, a further 23 students from last year’s Year-12 were awarded school colours for their outstanding contribution to sports at the British School and for their fantastic achievements. (SP)
