Every Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, the members of the Colombo branch of the Sri Lanka Association of Senior Citizens meet at St. Paul’s Church Hall, to not merely reminisce about the good old days but also to share a game of bingo, scrabble, bridge, carrom and card games.

Age is no barrier to having fun and the thrill of competing against one another is always keenly anticipated: thus the Sri Lanka Association for Senior Citizens will hold its annual All-Island Senior Citizens Scrabble Tournament on October 28 at the Colombo Hilton Amethyst Room with the registration beginning at 7.30 a.m.

The tournament will be held under two categories. Category “A” will be for the words from the Collins Scrabble Words Dictionary while Category “B” is for the players who use more traditional words from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Entry forms can be obtained from Mrs. Farida Akbarally, No.28, Clifford Place, Bambalapitiya (077-7786222) and Mrs. Indrani Atukorale, No.102/1, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7 (011-2696993)  The entry fee is Rs. 800 and the closing date for entries  is October 18.

The association also arranges annual picnics, monthly pot-lucks, sing-alongs and much more for their members.

Anyone who is over the age of 50 is welcome to join the association by dropping in at St. Paul’s Church Hall, Milagiriya on a Friday from 9 a.m to 12 noon.
