The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) emerged victors against the College of Chemistry Sciences (CCS) at their inaugural cricket encounter which was held at BRC Ground recently.

Taking first lease of the wicket, the IIT scored 282 in 48.1 overs. IIT Skipper Shehan Kahandugoda leading from the front top scored with 58, while Lakjeewa Wijebandara (46), Subodha Didulanka (38) and Kalana Dilshan (27) were the other main contributors for IIT.

For CCS Sachin Fernando 4/29 and Pathum Serasinghe 2/53 bowled best for CCS in keeping the attacking IIT batters quiet.

CCS in their run chase and was collapsed for 168 in 38.2 overs. Pavan Dissanayake staging a lonely battle to score 65 while Pathum Serasinghe made a brave attempt scoring 33 to pull CCS in sight of victory.

The main wicket takers for IIT were Ishan Ranasinghe (3/21), Thanusha Wijewardena (3/22) and Lakshan Kanishka (2/20).

Pavan Dissanayake of CCS bagged the Best Batsman’s Award and Sachin Fernando of CCS was adjudicated as the Best Fielder. IIT skipper Shehan Kahandugoda received the Man of the Match Award while Ishan Ranasinghe of IIT bagged the Best Bowler’s Award.

The Chief Guest for the event was Prof. Jayantha Wijeyaratne (Director IIT) and Dr Ranmal Gunatilake (Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Sports Mentor from CCS). The Guest of Honour for this year’s Big Match was Mrs Kishani Perera (Director IIT ) and Sudarshana Welihinda ( Direrctor Operation IIT).
