A reception was held on board Pakistan Maritime Security Ship (PMSS) “Kashmir” on August 14, 2018, the Independence Day of Pakistan.

A cake symbolising Pakistan-Sri Lanka friendship was cut by the Chief Guest together with the Sri Lanka Navy Commander, the Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan, the Commander of the ship and the High Commission's Defence Attache.

Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga was the chief guest. The reception was attended by Navy Commander S.S. Ranasinghe, senior security forces officers, diplomats and journalists, among others, a Pakistan High Commission statement said.

While welcoming the guests, PMSS Kashmir Mission Commander Captain Azhar Mahmood said the visit was a manifestation of the strong diplomatic and defence relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and was aimed at further strengthening of the bonds. He thanked the Sri Lankan authorities for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to them during their stay.

Minister Ranatunga said that it was a proud moment for him when his close friend Mr. Imran Khan was going to be the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. He hoped that under the leadership of Imran Khan, Pakistan would flourish further and the relationship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka would reach a new height.

Pakistan’s Acting High Commissioner Janbaz Khan said that it was a matter of great satisfaction that Pakistan and Sri Lanka continued to maintain their traditionally close and mutually beneficial relations in all fields. He said that the two countries had achieved development, progress and prosperity over the past 70 years through mutual cooperation.
