Wesley down Dharmaraja to bag Cup Championship
Wesley College did great to clinch the Cup championship
Wesley College beat Dharmaraja College by 12-7 to clinch the Cup Championship at the Milo Inter-School Under-16 10-a-side Rugby Tournament at the Trinity College ground in Pallekele.
Wesley overcame Royal College 10-5 while Dharmaraja edged out St. Joseph’s College 12-10 in the semi-finals to reach the final of the Cup category. In the quarter-finals Wesley beat Isipathana, while Dharmaraja overcame hometown rivals St. Anthony’s, Royal beat traditional rivals Trinity and St. Joseph’s beat Saints rivals St. Peter’s to move forward. Isipathana went on to beat St. Peter’s to clinch the Plate championship.
Science College beat D.S. Senanayake to claim the Bowl championship, after recording a 12-0 win in the final. In the semi-finals Science surprisingly thrashed Kingswood College by 47-0 while D.S. Senanayake pushed aside St. Sylvester’s College by 29-0. Vidyartha College beat Piliyandala Central to win the Shield Championship.
The two-day tournament was held last weekend at two venues in Kandy — Digana and Pallekele before the final day’s knockout matches were played at Pallekele on the second day. The tournament was organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association in collaboration with Nestle` Lanka’s Milo.
Hometown team Vidyartha College won the Shield title
