A week-long ‘Career Guidance & Job Fair’ will be held by the Ministry of Education (MoE) for the first time, after the GCE A/L exams, according to MoE Additional Secretary (School Affairs) Ashoka Hewage. “The usual practice has been for schools to host such events at school level or, some of the major events are held in Colombo and hence, cannot be attended by all. But this will be different, as it will cater to 3 Provinces at a time,” he said.

He said they plan to target, Kurunegala, Kandy and Galle, so that it will cover all the schools in the adjoining Districts as well, in such events. More than 500 State and non-state institutions will be involved in this programme, where students will have a wide choice to select from.  Advice will be provided on how students could apply to various Courses and Jobs, while Vocational Training Institutions too will be invited to participate. “The objective is to ensure that students are guided properly,” he said. The dates for the first event in Kurunegala will be announced shortly. - DW
