A thanksgiving service was held on June 23 to mark the 95th anniversary of the opening of the Headquarters of the Girls’ Friendly Society at Green Path, Kollupitiya. The guests of honour were Damayanti Peiris, grand-daughter of Charles Peiris who gifted the building to the GFS, Sharya Scharenguivel and Mala Salgado, two great grand-daughters of Sir James Peiris, elder brother of Charles Peiris.

The award ceremony of the 2nd annual craft competition organized by the Society for Sunday School children was also held on the same day. This year, the theme was on water and the pollution of the world’s waterways. The two categories of teams, Senior and Junior, were provided with coloured sand to be used imaginatively to create works of art, based on selected Bible passages connected with water.
