40 gold biscuits worth Rs 25m detected at BIA

Customs officials yesterday seized 40 gold biscuits valued at over Rs 25 million from an Indian national at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.

The man had arrived with a group of Indian businessmen, but his behaviour had aroused the suspicion of Customs officials who frisked him, and found the gold biscuits hidden in his trouser pockets.

Each of the 24 karat gold biscuits weighed 100 gm, Customs officials said.

Deputy Directors of Customs Vipula Minuwanpitiya and E.M.J. Navaratne led the team that made the detection.
