‘The Invisible Moon’ soon to appear
Award winning filmmaker Vijitha Gunaratne’s second cinema direction ‘Amawaka’- ‘The Invisible Moon’ is to be released soon.
The film starring Duleeka Marapana, Shyam Fernando, Suranga Ranawana and a host of children is the second direction by Vijitha who won awards for his debut ‘Walapatala’.
‘Amawaka’ revolves around a family where parents who decide to come to the city with the aim of giving their children, a son and a daughter, a better education. Though they know that the best environment for their children to be brought up in is the village, where there are natural surroundings, they are forced to come to the busy and highly populated city.
But the parents who wished for a sound education for their two children are faced with new problem. With the highly disturbing and distracting environment in the city, the creativity and imaginative skills of the son are gradually decreased while the daughter
adapts herself too fast to the urban setting. However the family’s future is completely changed with the new discoveries made by the son.
The film focuses on the challenges faced by present day children when they are forced to achieve their educational goals and specially the obstacles faced by middle class families.
Well-known playwright, drama teacher, writer, screenplay writer and translator, Vijihta has created a number of popular stage plays such as ‘Detha Kiyatha’, ‘Sathyanganavi’, ‘Subha Sadaka’, ‘Pansa Thune Kathawa’ ‘Sakki’ and Nirage Gedara’. He won the Best Director award for his maiden film ‘Walapatala’ in 2009.
