A tree speaks
I am a mango tree. I am a very important tree for people. I am very proud of myself because I am a famous tree in this country. I am standing beside a road. I was a seed and then I grew into a tree. I have many friends. Animals and people come near me for shade and because of my beauty. Birds make nests in my branches. When there are flowers, bees come humming to drink nectar. There are fruits growing on my branches. The fruit is called mango. I bear a lot of mangoes in the season.

People like to eat mangoes. Children also love them too. Sometimes they throw sticks or stones at me to get the fruits.
During photosynthesis, I take in carbon-dioxide and turn it into oxygen. I am doing a great service to make all living beings. I am very happy to be a mango tree because I can make many living beings happy. I think people must protect all trees. I do not like people who cut trees.

Importance of aesthetics in our lives
Aesthetics is a very important subject in our lives. By learning aesthetics, we can learn about the culture of other races.
Music, dancing and art are aesthetic subjects. For example, by learning Karnatic Music or Bharatha Nayyam we can learn about the Hindu culture. We can also practice and study the Hindu aesthetic activities. By learning and studying about Kandyan dancing and Sinhalese music we can learn about
the culture of the Sinhalese people.

By learning Western Music we can learn about the culture of the Western people. In this manner, we can gain knowledge about the different cultures of different races. Instead of just practising one culture, we need to practice all of these cultures so that we can have a wide knowledge on Aesthetics.

Aesthetics makes us more sensitive human beings. Music, Dancing and Art, while bringing out creativity, helps us to relax. Drawing a picture or playing the piano make good leisure time activities. Aesthetics therefore should be made an important part in all our lives.

Importance of reading
If we ask people for their hobbies, many would say ‘Reading.’ Reading enables a person to be intelligent and knowledgeable. There is no one in the world who hasn’t read a book, it might be a school book, a comic, a magazine or a newspaper. As we all know, by reading we knowingly gather information.
Books take us into another world. Even without visiting a new country, a person understands the culture and traditions of that country.

In this we can ensure that we are bringing up good citizens. When a child reads, he or she can even find solutions to their problems through the book.
We should also ensure to keep the books neatly. Earlier generations used to read a lot of books. Parents should take care that a child spends less time on TV and Internet and more time on reading.

Animals
Animals are living things. They are very useful for the existence of humans and plants. Birds, reptiles, fish and lions are some animals. Some animals have two legs, four legs, and many legs. Animals are classified according to the food they consume. They are herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.
Animals are useful in many ways. They beautify the environment. Birds and bats help to propagate seeds. Earthworms help to loosen the soil and enrich it. But animals like snails, caterpillars harm the plants.

We can see different kinds of animals in coastal belts, forests and river banks.
In Sri Lanka, there are many sanctuaries for animals such as Yala, Kanneliya, Lunugamvehera and Bundala, famous for animals. Kumana park is famous for birds. Whale and dolphin watching in Sri Lanka also attracts tourists.
