Some big theatre ‘travelling’ shows have as much as 20-25 container loads of equipment which travel from country to country via sea lanes accompanying the cast and crew who fly to different destinations for the next show.

In a new foray into the “travelling show’ circuit in Sri Lanka, the highly-acclaimed “Sound of Music” production was held at the Nelum Pokuna theatre in Colombo to full houses for its entire 5-day run, last week. The Business Times, courtesy Cinnamon Life, had an opportunity to watch some work and scenes back-stage – hours before the show – on the afternoon of Wednesday February 14.

Due to the size of the crew, the theatre’s 10 dressing rooms were insufficient. So two more dressing rooms were set up on the grounds in two convertainers (containers transformed into living or office spaces). The Cinnamon brand marketing team led by Dilip Mudadeniya aims to transform Colombo into an entertainment hub and the Sound of Music theatre production with its gigantic props brought in 10 containers, is the first step in that direction.

These pictures supplied by Cinnamon Life show the behind-the-scenes activity on Wednesday February 14.
