Why a school sportsmeet is important
Most schools have a sportsmeet annually. It is a very enjoyable day. Though there are many functions in a school, the sportsmeet takes a prominent place. Some schools hold this event on a grand scale.

Unlike in other functions, a majority of students take part in a sportsmeet. Not only the students but also the teachers are very busy during the sportsmeet time. The students engage in various activities such as making tents for the various houses, giving first aid, forming cheer squads.

On this special day, parents and many guests come to see the students’ performance. This special event helps them to display their various talents. The winners are awarded prizes and medals. The losers don’t get discouraged and happily accept their defeat. This event brings a lot of happiness and helps in encouraging teamwork. It is an unforgettable period in everyone’s school life.

The elephant
Elephants live mostly in the jungles of Asia and Africa. They are very intelligent. Elephants are the largest animal on land. Elephants have strong trunks but they have small eyes. The elephant is a mammal. It eats leaves and fruits.
Elephants are used for transportation and peraheras. Sometimes elephants attack people and destroy crops. People shoot them. Therefore the population of elephants is dwindling rapidly at present.

A visit to a historical site
The historical site I visited was Dambulla. I went to Dambulla from our school on an educational trip. First we went to Dambulla Temple. There are many statues of Lord Buddha. Many monkeys live in Dambulla Viharaya. This is built under a huge stone. There is a place in the stone where water drops are coming from. It’s a miracle because still they can’t find the place where the water comes from. Many foreign people were there because they like historical places. We took photographs with them.

Then we went to Namal Uyana. In Namal Uyana, a monk lives a simple life in the jungle. We ate our lunch at Namal Uyana. In between the forest there is a road. We went on that road. Then we saw the Pink Quartz Mountain. Some of my friends were afraid to climb the mountain but others and I climbed the mountain.

After we got down from the mountain we were very tired so we drank a cool lemon juice from a small shop near the mountain. Then we came back home. That was the best trip that I have ever gone.
