Twenty five wickets fell in just more than a day and a half and it was St. Sebastian’s who tasted the sweet savour of success at home when they coasted to a seven win at Moratuwa.

The opening day’s play saw St. Peter’s after being bowled out for a paltry 98 runs fighting back to restrict the home side for a score of 122. Batting for the second time on Friday, St. Peter’s ran into more difficulties after losing five more second innings wickets for only 51 runs.

Resuming from there on day two, they made a valiant bid to save through Pabasara Herath who made a valuable 81 but it proved to be in vain and were all out for 180.

St. Sebastian’s, set a run chase of 158, were helped by half tons through Nishith Abilash (51), Tharusha Fernando (55 n.o.) and  Praveen Cooray (50 n.o.), who saw them to the target in just 34 overs to record their first outright win for the season.

Four other outright wins were recorded yesterday with Trinity securing an innings and 12 runs win over Wesley at Campbell Park, Kegalu MV overcoming Ananda Sastralaya Kotte by 10 wickets at Kotte, St. John’s getting the better of Kingswood by 5 wickets at Peradeniya and Bandaranayake MV crushing Ranpokunugama MV by innings and 78 runs at Ranpokunugama with the match being finished within one day.
