Best sports woman of the year Sandali Kanishka Udagedara receives colours from the chief guest Sriyani Kulawansa.

Sandali Kanishka Udagedara was crowned as the best sports woman of the year for her excellent performances in the game of chess, at the ‘Colours awards ceremony 2017′ of Pushpadana girls school Kandy held at the school auditorium.

Sandali, is a brilliant chess player, who has represented the country at the Asian youth chess championship 2017 and Commonwealth chess championship 2016. She was the champion at the special youth all island chess championship 2017 and also at the Sri Lanka schools super 30 all island chess championship held in 2017.

Over 300 Pushpadanians were awarded certificates of excellence, Pushpa Kekulu , Pushpa and Swarna Pushpa awards in recognition of their achievements in the sports arena during the two years 2016 and 2017.

Ms. Sriyani Kulawansa, (silver medalist commonwealth games 1998) assistant project officer athletics, ministry of education graced the occasion as the chief guest while the guest of honour was Dr. Lakkhi Devika Jayasooriya, eye surgical unit general hospital Kandy, who is a past pupil of Pushpadana Girls School.

Medavi Binaramali Bandara, who has showed much promise in karate by winning a first place in kata at shotokan karate do national karate championship 2016 and another  first place in kumite at Japan karate do Nobukawa  Ha Shito – Ryukai – 2016 international karate do championship was presented with the award for the most promising sports star of the school.

  •  Badminton: Chethana Abeysingha, Supujani Kekulandara.
  •  Hockey: Duleeka Harischandra, Madushani Rathnayake, Subhashini Perera, Geethi Herath, Chathuri Samaeaweera.
