The signing of an Economic Co-operation Agreement and entering into memorandums of understanding on investment cooperation and the Employment Permit System (EPS) will be among the highlights of President Maithripala Sirisena’s state visit to South Korea commencing on Tuesday. President Sirisena on the invitation of his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in, will undertake the visit from November 28 to 30. The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The proposal to sign an Economic Cooperation Agreement on investment partnerships, trade relations, tourism promotion and industrial cooperation with South Korea was earlier approved by the Cabinet. Agreements on the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and cultural cooperation are also to be signed during the visit.

President Sirisena is scheduled to attend a business luncheon co-hosted by the four major Korean business associations, and meet with the Sri Lankan community in South Korea. On Wednesday, President Moon is scheduled to meet President Sirisena for summit talks and host him to a state dinner, the Foreign Ministry said.
Meanwhile a host of events were held in Colombo to mark the anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
