“If anyone is looking for cakes, the BSC Christmas Carnival is the best place to get them,” says Dr. John Scarth, Principal of the British School in Colombo, all enthusiastic about the upcoming Christmas Carnival of the British School in Colombo on December 9.

An annual event which brings the school community together, the Carnival has been held for 22 consecutive years. The BSC now counts 1400 students of 53 nationalities and the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) invites the public to enjoy this seasonal extravaganza which has proven to be a popular fixture in the school calendar which not only the school community but even others eagerly look forward to.

A large number of stalls selling food delicacies, home baked goodies, handicrafts, handmade cards and Christmas decorations, clothing, baby products and many more will be available. The food court being one of the most popular stops will have a range of food items including Sri Lankan, Chinese and Indian fare.  The event is filled with fun activities – games and raffle draws. “It’s a family day which has something for everyone,” assures Dr.Scarth.

This year the BSC Christmas carnival is themed “Winter Wonderland” and the organizing committee is busy with the last minute preparations for the event. President of the PTA Vindy De Silva, Secretary Shayani Christopher,Treasurer Amina Haleem and other committee members Pri Perera, Fazal Ahamed, Ashani De Sylva, Dr. Chamara Bandara, Fathima Izmy , Youngha Jung, Caralina Zahang  and Dr. Nidhi Shukla have been putting in great efforts to make this year’s event a memorable one.

“Every year we support local charities out of the funds generated at the Christmas Carnival and the help we received from the students, parents and teachers has been tremendous over the past years,” Vindy De Silva said.

The British School Christmas carnival will be held at the British School premises on Saturday, December 9 from 2 p.m to 8 p.m. Tickets priced at Rs.2000 are now available at the gate. Children below 5yrs could walk in free.
