Canon’s Photo marathon will be held on October 21 for which they have tied up with Sri Lanka Tourism targeting local and tourist photo enthusiasts to take part in the competition, to ensure Sri Lanka receives increased promotion through the camera lens at the competition.

This is the second Photo Marathon held in Sri Lanka alongside their regional competitors in other countries with the winner set to win a fully paid trip to Japan to participate at the international event on a learning experience along with a Canon EOS. Other countries include Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Cambodia, Brunei and Taiwan.

The photo marathon would be held with the aim of highlighting some of the country’s famous sights from the perspective of the visitor.

The competition organised by Metropolitan Photo Hub Pvt. Ltd on behalf of Canon is expected to attract over 400 photographers and more than 800 anticipated photo submissions on the day. An open event it is set to attract participants in two categories – adults and students – with the only criterion to participate being to have a prior registration and a camera, Metropolitan Photo Hub Managing Director Taslim Rahaman said at a media briefing held in Colombo on Tuesday.

Registration for the event has become simplified with the association of mydeal.lk acting as the online partner. Participants would be able to travel to the locations required onboard the double decker of Ebert Silva Holidays that has supported the competition two years in a row as the official travel partner.

Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Chairman Udaya Nanayakkara told journalists that the bureau had already partnered this month with the LSR Marathon, now the Canon Marathon and later this year for the Choir Games. He pointed out that next year Sri Lanka would play host to events every month that would ensure the participation of at least 2000 – 3000 persons attracting the numbers to the country. (SD)
