A holiday outing
I like most of my August school holidays because I can go and stay
one week with my grandfather.
My grandfather’s house is situated in Matara. It is a very beautiful village. Seeya has a very big garden. I can eat many kinds of fruits from there. There are lots of paddy-fields. Some farmers cut their harvest. I can see many machines in the fields. Some farmers cut the harvest with sickles.
There are lots of birds I can see in Seeya’s garden. I most like to see the

weaver birds making their nests. They make their nests in the top leaves of the coconut trees. I brought a nest to show my friends in my school.
Seeya gets up early in the morning and goes to the paddy-field. After that he goes to bring hoppers for me. I like to eat the tasty hoppers very much. I feel very sad to leave Seeya’s place after my holidays.

An interesting shop
An interesting shop that I went to, is one of the famous ‘electronics and gaming’ stores in Sri Lanka, which is Nastars. It has been there for over 30 years. It’s the perfect place for electricians and gamers. The first time I walked into Nastars I was clearly in heaven. It had a library full of video-games, gaming consoles, cameras, headphones and toys too. That exact same day my parents bought me a PS4 (Play Station 4). And it was our lucky day that they gave the PS4 75% off which was really cool.

So I went home happily.
After a week or so my dad wanted a camera so mom decided to go to Nastars. When we walked into Nastars once again, the man at the counter was delighted to see us again. We bought the camera and the man said, “Please, do come again.” So after that, if we need to buy an electronic or gift for someone we go to Nastars because it is the best place. I’d say that Nastars is an interesting shop.

Teachers’ Day
Teachers’ Day is celebrated on
October 6. This day has its own story
of origin in different countries
and has an astonishing history.
Long ago in a city in Japan, bombing events took place so all the schools were given a holiday. A pre-school was also told about this but the students didn’t want to leave their friend suffering from polio. Their teacher promised the children and took the opportunity of saving the life of that child. The teacher came out carrying the child but a bomb fell on the teacher’s head and they both died.
In remembrance of this great teacher, a day for teachers was declared in Japan.
Teachers care for us like our second parents. Teachers do the most noble occupation on earth. But it is quite sad to see that teachers do not get paid a lot.
We should remember that although a doctor is able to cure the sick, a teacher taught him once. We are lucky to have teachers who don’t care about their salaries but about their children’s future.

Teachers’ Day is a time where children pay their gratitude to their teachers. They worship the teachers, give presents and even have celebrations with their teachers. I am blessed to have teachers who sacrifice their time and energy for me and my friends and I wish that all other children get teachers like them.
I believe that there shouldn’t be just one teachers’ day in the year but instead children should take care of their teachers the same way every day and wish them a prosperous future.

A healthy life
Good qualities of a person pave the way to be healthy and wealthy. These help to measure ones humanity. They are the noble things that we would practice while living.

It is better to engage in day to day activities with good qualities, modesty, honesty, generosity, kindness, empathy and mercy are some which anyone cultivates in ones heart without spending money. As children we can make our society better. Then elders would admire and respect us. Being selfless, listening to others, sacrificing our time for others, working together, accepting victory and defeat equally and protecting elders are some of easier qualities that anyone can cultivate.
All the religions teach us to be good. If we have these we can face the challenges without fear and shyness. We can easily be successful and proud of ourselves as the people around us talk admirably about us. Let us inculcate good qualities in our hearts and minds to make our motherland fantastic. What a wonderful place it would be on earth.

A holiday outing

One Saturday evening I went to the beach with my friends. First we dug in the sand and made a huge sandcastle.
It was very interesting for us. It was a windy evening. Suddenly, one big wave came to us and our castle washed away. We all were so sad.
Then we went to buy a kite. We bought two beautiful kites and started to fly them. When it reached to the clouds we had a big laugh to express our happiness.
After that we wanted to play in the sea water. When we went to the water, big waves came to us and we all got wet. We started to feel tired so we packed our things and came back home.

On our way back, we saw an ice-cream seller. So we too wanted to buy ice-cream. We had yummy ice-cream. Every one of us enjoyed a lot. We had a wonderful outing.

Lessons from animals
We usually learn new things from our parents, teachers and mentors. But if you also look carefully at the animal world, there are many things to learn from them too. One example is a swarm of bees. You may have seen bees buzzing around. They collect honey and build a huge number of bee hives for the Queen Bee to lay her eggs. They even sacrifice their lives when they get to know that somebody has killed a member of their own troupe by stinging.

Ants show you the power of getting together and working as they carry a large number of food crumbs to their homes. Elephants show us how they care about someone when they are in trouble. Wildebeests tackle a lion who has come to get hold of one. And so on. There are many things which we can learn from animals.

Time should not be wasted
Time is a very valuable thing. Time should not be wasted. It has to be spent on necessary things. Time has to be spent on education. It is good to spend time on sports. It is good for your health. Everyone has only 24 hours of time for a day. Time well spent is good for your future. Time wasted cannot be taken back. It is good to use time wisely.
