The 3rd Colombo International Students (COINS) Film Festival, the first and only international students film festival held in Sri Lanka was completed recently introducing a host of young talents to the country’s future cinema.

Organised as the final year project by the student who studies cinema at the Digital Film Academy of Sri Lanka Foundation, there were 56 short films, under three categories, fiction, non- fiction and animation competed during the festival.

Joined with some of the world renowned international film festivals such as Locarno Film Festival- Open Doors in Switzerland, Cox Beach International Film Festival in Bangladesh, MeDFilm in Italy and Vesoul International Film Festival, COINS had a large number of screenings under world cinema category.

Around 300 films were received for the festival from 15 countries all over the world and out of this 56 fiction, non-fiction and animated films were selected for the official screening of the COINS festival and out of this 17 films were nominated for COINS awards.

COINS Debut Grant Award
Taking pre-production, Script development, production quality and projection of the idea to the people into consideration,  the COINS Debut Grant was awarded to Chirath De Silva the director of the short films ‘Shadow in the Dark’ and ‘White Light’. Charith was also this year’s chairperson of COINS film festival.

Powered by The Office for Cultural Affairs of the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka and the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation; the strategic partner of the festival was VINODE brought to you by Dialog. The other festival partners were National Film Corporation, Digital Post Services, Sooriya Music Village, City FM, NEO Graphics, the Museum Cinemaya, FTT, and Clutch.’
