A day I won’t forget
The day I won’t forget is my 10th birthday. I won’t forget it because I had such a lot of fun. In the morning when I woke up I was given gifts from my mother and father. They each gave me a present with lots of nice and interesting stuff.

When I got ready and finished eating, my mother told me that one more surprise was there. I asked my mother, “What is the surprise?” but she said that if she told me it wouldn’t be a surprise. So I waited and then I heard the gate opening and I ran to see. What I saw was my favourite aunt in the whole wide world.

She then came and gave a hug and a gift and we went inside the house. At the time of my party, my grandparents and all my aunts and uncles came with my cousins. Later on friends and classmates were also invited. We ordered a bouncer and treats to have for snacks and there were also games to play. The party finished by 6p.m., and at last everyone left and I got ready to sleep. But I opened some of my gifts and then I was sleepy and tired, so I went to bed.

What we could do to improve the world
There is an abundance of radiance and splendour in the world. But despite its beauty and wonder, however it still has many troubles. We all agree that the world could be made a better place. However embracing the entire world as a venture can undeniably be a tremendous task. How can a task of such significance and magnitude be initiated and what can one person with simple resources effectively do?

How would I change the world? I can only say that I must continue to be the best I can be. I focus on what is within my reach, the people I can help, the kindness I can do for my family and friends, the small ways I can help and contribute positive energy and ideas to the world I impact. All of us have this ability. Recognising it and embracing it will make a better world.

With all that said, it is impossible to contribute to improve the world if you don’t know what is wrong with it. In my opinion, we, the people, are the problem. We destroy, hurt and abuse every natural beauty of the world, from the sand of the earth to the precious children.

I strongly feel that we must first improve ourselves as individuals. By my vow to living a spiritual, moral and independent life, I am passing these same virtues and values to the next generation. The world needs more loving, caring and conscious people. Parents set the trend for their children. Many do not realise that the children are our future and should be taught and raised to be leader cultivators. We lead by example.

My steps may be small and simple but improvement has to begin somewhere. We can all contribute to make this world a better place. Remember that our thoughts become our actions and the sum of our actions becomes the lives that we lead.

Camping trip to Lyceum Adventure Park, Kurunegala
Early on May 16th we left our school, looking forward to reach the Kurunegala Lyceum Adventure Park. We reached there about 8.15 a.m. Then we went to our rooms, where there were bunk beds. We had our breakfast, sang songs to music and danced. After that we did various activities such as tunnel walk, crocodile walk, commander rope etc.

At about 4.30 p.m., we had a tractor ride in the jungle. At 6.30 p.m., we had the campfire. It lasted for one hour. Then we had dinner and after that we had a DJ party until 10 o’clock. Then we went to sleep. Night was the most enjoyable time. We applied toothpaste on each other’s faces, we had parties, we banged on the doors to sing songs. At last we slept at 3 o’clock.

We woke up at 5 o’clock and went on a long distance jogging. Then we had breakfast and did some activities with water. The last activities were to pass balloons closing eyes. And the balloons were filled with water. As soon as we started the staff members and the three Scout sirs threw water. We bathed with our uniforms and then had tea. Then we started our return journey at 5 p.m.
I liked this camp very much. In this camp we also learnt educational things.

My best day
My best day is Tuesday. I went to Colombo to see my grandma and spend time with her and then went to the park. My friends were also there and I played with them.
My grandma was tired. Then we went to drink some juice.
The next day I was getting ready to go home. Grandma was very sad because I was going home. This is a day that I will remember forever.

How does our mother care about us?
When we are small she washes our clothes, she feeds us. When we get sick she takes us to the hospital. She cares about us. She loves us.
My mother loves me but not only me, the children in the whole world. When I got low marks for the test she was telling me, “don’t cry, try next time.”
That much love my mother has for me.
I have many things to repeat to you about my mother but later.
