A visit to the forest
My uncle is a forest officer.
Last week he took me with him to the forest. I was thrilled and excited as it was the first time that I was going to the forest. He had told me stories about various animals. I hoped to see some of them. It was early morning when we started for the forest. Inside the forest, there was very little sunlight. I was excited, yet scared. It was very quiet. My uncle told me not to make any noise. I sat quietly next to him.

After driving through the forest for half an hour my uncle suddenly stopped the jeep. He told me to look to my left. There in the bushes, I could see a herd of deer. I was overjoyed. I wanted to go near them but my uncle said that they would get scared and run away. He also said that it was not safe to get out of the jeep. We also saw an elephant, a peacock, a litter of cubs and some fluffy little rabbits. An hour later we came back to our house. I was so happy that I gave my uncle a tight hug.

An interesting exhibition
There was an exhibition held in Visakha Vidyalaya due to its 100th Anniversary. As a Visakhian, I also went to the exhibition with my mother and twin sister. My mother bought some tickets for the three of us. It was fun going to the exhibition.
The exhibition was marvellous. More than the exhibits of the younger grades there were mostly Grade Ten and Eleven senior students’ exhibits.

First we went to the Science section, as our mother said that there were interesting facts to learn. There were massive robots that I had never seen before, which can be worked by the phone. There was also a machine that can make ‘pani valalu’. A senior student explained to us how it worked. There were some old telephones which were displayed. In the hostel area, the
‘Gutthila Kaavya’ was made as a structure.

A senior student explained the story to us. I was impressed by the models in the ‘Gutthila Kaavya’ as they had been made so cleverly. We saw a structure of a greenhouse that worked automatically.
Afterwards in the evening we went home. I was so happy that day because
I learnt a lot.

My favourite bookshops
I love books, which exactly means I love bookshops. We can purchase varieties of books from a bookshop. Some of my favourite bookshops in Sri Lanka are Makeen, Vijitha Yapa, Sarasavi and Jeya. They have story books, comedies, comics, educational books, encyclopedias, magazines and many more. They all are great bookshops.
In Malaysia, I found a bookshop, which was not an ordinary bookshop.

It was called ‘Kinokuniya.’ What I really loved here was the section on  Harry Potter.
There was a separate display cupboard, which had many things related to Harry Potter, such as his wand, the triwizard cup, the horcruxes and small cards which contained character profiles of each character in the book. There were plenty of other books too.
I really love bookshops and I just don’t have one favourite, but many favourite bookshops. I love every bookshop in this world.

An interesting exhibition
Last Sunday, I went to see a Science exhibition with my family. It was held
at the Kandy City Centre. First, we had
to buy tickets from the counter.
Then we went in with curiosity.

There were a large number of stalls in the hall. Several stalls were filled by creations made by children. There were robots, remote control cars, motor boats and various interesting equipment.

My favourite was an air-conditioner made by a student. It was made with a plastic box. There was an exhaust fan fixed to the box and a pipe at the other end of the box. Air enters the box through the exhaust fan and then it cools down by the ice packs placed inside the box. After that, air comes out from the pipe, as cool as ice. I like it because it is innovative.

Also, there were some interesting and complex equipments. Some were made to overcome problems at present, while some were invented to reduce problems that will be in the future. Even though they were complicated, I was able to understand their basic concepts.

I think it was an interesting exhibition filled with curiosity and
I learnt lots of things that will help me in the future.
