Friday, June 16 was an evening with a splash of colour, music and dancing as the talented students of the Deanna School of Dancing disguised themselves as famous toys for their performance in the ‘Magic Toyshop’. Produced and directed by Natasha and Natalie Jayasuriya, the production featured a story, set in the backdrop of a magic toy shop.

Two mischievous girls curiously enter the shop only to get locked in! Strange things take place in the shop as through the power of magic the toys come to life dancing into the evening. The production featured over 450 students aged between two to ten years dressed as bears, bunnies, My Little Ponies, Russian, Spanish and Japanese dolls, toy soldiers, spinning tops, puppets and much more.

The little ones dazzled the audience with their talents. As the magical evening came to an end – (Yes, the two rascals managed to escape!) Natasha commented, “the main reason we do these productions is for our little ones to come off stage and think, “Wow I’m a dancer.”” Pix by Sameera Weerasekara
