Students affected by the floods and landslides, will be able to sit the GCE (Advanced Level) exam on 4 occasions, instead of 3 sittings, to be considered for University selection, said Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
He said the facility will be only for the affected students, following confirmation from the respective Grama Sevaka Divisions.

“We will have to ensure there is no misuse of the concession granted,” he said. The Education Times learns the concession was provided following requests that the affected students be considered as a special category when University admissions take place. However, in view of the practical difficulties in considering such requests, the Ministry has decided to provide an opportunity for the students to sit the exam on 4 occasions, to be considered for University admission.
Commissioner General of Exams, W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara said the Dept has made arrangements to send a set of past papers to the affected students. “In addition, we will provide other educational material needed for those affected students sitting the ALs in August.

Meanwhile, plans are under way for additional seminars and workshops for students in affected areas. - DW
