A blue water lily (nil manel) floral display lent a unique Sri Lankan flavour to the International Floral Exhibit at National Cathedral’s Flower Mart on May 5 and 6 in Washington D.C.
Designed by the Sri Lankan Embassy staff especially for the annual spring event, the floral arrangement salutes the national flower of Sri Lanka. The blue water lilies which were especially flown in from Sri Lanka adorned the traditional oil lamp along with white roses and frangipanis. Sri Lanka was one of the 19 countries that presented a flower display and the only South Asian country to do so.

Held annually in May, the National Cathedral’s Flower Mart is now in its 78th year and is considered Washington D.C.’s Premier Family Spring Festival, welcoming thousands of visitors, young and old.
