Methodist College Colombo marked its 150th anniversary in 2016, an occasion that brought past students from across the world together in grateful celebration for their happy years in school.

One such group came together in 2015 as they celebrated 50 years since they left school, and moved to go beyond the camaraderie and fun, decided to launch the Grace Robins Endowment Fund, named after a much loved former Principal of MC to support deserving students with their schooling.

“The Grace Robins Endowment Fund is for students who are unable to meet their financial commitments adequately. The aim of the fund is to bring to the fore latent talents that might be suppressed for economic reasons, to foster the full potential of each student and enable her to become a vital contributor to the school and global society not only in the academic field but in others like sport and music,” the Society’s statement reads.

In pursuit of this aim, the ‘GREF society for Methodist College’ as they call themselves will present ‘Musical Mosaic’ -a musical evening on June 10 at the Lionel Wendt at 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for their cause.

Taking the stage will be a virtual galaxy of local talent.  The musical evening is headlined by the De Lanerolle Brothers, well known for their great harmonies. Dr. Prashanthi Mendis, the only steel drum soloist in Sri Lanka will be in action accompanied by pianist Indrani Wijesundera of ‘Friends in Harmony’ fame and saxophonist Roshan Weerasekera while pianist Dr Priyeshni P. Perera will be accompanied on cello and violin. Gifted soloist Mayanthi De Silva, will also sing at Musical Mosaic.

The audience can also look forward to hearing some wonderful choral harmonies: Billed to perform are Asteria directed by Prashalini Peiris, Metho Cantanti- the official past pupils choir of Methodist College and the Junior Choir of the school. Many of the performers are old girls of the school and therefore looking forward to giving of their talents to help others with promise and potential to shine.

Tickets priced at Rs. 3,500, 3,000, 2,500,2,000 and 1,500 (reserved) can be obtained by calling 0763-443737 from May 20-31.
