The United States has increased assistance for two different important programmes in Sri Lanka – “Strengthened Partnership for Democratic Reform and Social Integration” and “Increased and Equitable Growth and Public Financial Management.”

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said in a cabinet memorandum that grant funds up to US$ 22,767,781 and US$ 21,526,650 have been provided. He has said that on an incremental basis US$ 10,738,781 and US$ 14,717,650 have been provided respectively so far.

He has said the USAID (Agency for International Development) has now proposed to enhance its contribution up to US$ 22,707,781 and US$ 21,526,650 respectively for the two programmes.

Premier Wickremesinghe has won the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to authorise the Director General of the Department of External Resources to sign the agreements related to these programmes. This is to make provision for the enhanced amounts.
