A public lecture on ‘Do You Know the Ninth Commandment? Tensions of the Oath in Dutch Colonial Sri Lanka’ will be delivered by Dr. Nadeera Rupesinghe at the Department of National Archives, Colombo 7 on Thursday, February 23 at 3 p.m.

Rupesinghe has studied hitherto unused sources in the Dutch language that lie buried in the National Archives to write a nuanced history of judicial practice in the eighteenth-century. She began her studies in history at the University of Colombo after which she spent six years at Leiden University for her postgraduate studies. She is at present a temporary lecturer at the Open University of Sri Lanka where she pursues an interest in the history of science and technology. Rupesinghe will join Leiden University as a post-doct¬oral researcher later this year.

As part of its efforts to enhance public awareness and knowledge of records of historical value in its possession, the Department of National Archives holds a public lecture series on the last Thursday of every month in English.

All are welcome.
