The students of Grade 7 of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda decided to do a project titled ‘Let’s serve our community’, to support different causes in society.
Classes got together to support various projects as follows.

National Cancer Institute
Paediatric Unit
A team of students from Grade 7 raised funds for cancer patients. We were able to purchase medical needs for the patients. We raised money wholeheartedly by a movie show and hosting a Bake Sale.
We printed posters and tickets and much more, to bring joy and happiness to these children.
Afterwards we visited the Cancer Care Welfare Foundation and spoke to the other patients. We were very happy that from our collection we were able to donate money to the Foundation as well.

Elders Home
This project was the visit to the Lankadara Elders Home where we were welcomed by around 80 old mothers and grandmothers who were waiting eagerly for our arrival. We raised funds by a Bake Sale, where we sold many goodies such as brownies, rolls, cupcakes etc. From our collection we purchased many items such as soap, dry rations and packed into big boxes. At the home we spoke to them, served them food and entertained them by singing and dancing. Our aim was to make them happy and we believe we accomplished it successfully.

Mihindu Seth Madura –
Healing home for war heroes
We visited the Mihindu Seth Madura. It was a beautiful place. We raised funds by having a bake sale, movie screening, collected donations through a till collection during Parent – Teacher Day held at school. We served them with delicious food, performed for them and made them happy. We also donated books for the children of the soldiers and novels for the Mihindu Seth Madura library. We understood through this trip, how important it is to help people who sacrificed their lives for us.

Children’s Home
We were excited to hear we would be visiting a children’s home for our project this year. For this we had a bake sale to collect funds. We were so happy to see their smiles when we gave them small bands and necklaces we had made. We gifted them with food and gifts. The children were entertained by us singing songs, playing the piano and violins,
