What I enjoy doing the most
There are so many things that I’m fond of doing, for example: reading storybooks and newspapers, making paper quilling flowers, memorising the countries and its capitals and countless more. But there is one thing I love doing and that is writing essays and poems to the Funday Times.
I enjoy it because that is the time I feel all the weight which was on me come off, like my homework, studies and things like that. I write more stories and essays than poems.
I started writing essays to the
Funday Times at the age of five and that contained only six sentences and it was about ‘My brother’. But now I can’t believe that I’m writing essays which have 200 words.
I would also love to write a full page story one day. I have a file bundled up with stories and poems. The thing I like the most is nature. The place where I like to write is on my balcony. I would also like to thank the Funday Times for publishing all my essays and encouraging my writing skills.

The sea
The sea is very large. It is blue in colour. Seawater is very salty. Boats and ships sail in the sea. There are different types of fish, sharks and whales in the sea. The waves are big. There is sea-grass, seaweed and coral reefs in the sea. The sea seems like it never ends.
People catch fish from the sea. Some creatures like whales and sharks eat other animals in the sea. The sea is near my house. Some people surf in the sea.

My pet
My pet is a cat who purrs really loudly. She eats a lot but she doesn’t eat or catch any cockroaches. My kitty’s name is Crystal but when she curls up and sleeps I call her Fuzzy. She sleeps in various places such as cushions, computer tops, on my piano, in handbags, on my bed and also on my father’s car!
I think my cat is the best cat in the world!

A change
The day is slowly creeping up. The day that I have to leave the Junior School I attended for the last five years and join the Senior School in town is drawing near.
I feel both sad and excited. Sad because I will be leaving the school environment I am used to, my loving friends with whom I studied, played pranks with and shared secrets, and my beloved teacher who were so very kind and helpful. Excited because of all the new subjects I will study, getting to know new people and to explore my new school.
I cannot predict the future. I will have to wait and see. What will be, will be. But I do know for sure that the change will be a challenge and I hope to face it bravely.

My recent trip to Anuradhapura
My recent trip to the ancient city of Anuradhapura was extremely thrilling!
I learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely. On December 8, we departed from home. We reached a bungalow there at nightfall and it was a long and tiring journey.
The next day we left the bungalow  to see the ancient stupas, ruins and the Sri Maha Bodhiya. We first visited the
Sri Maha Bodhiya and worshipped it.

We also saw the renovated Anuradhapura Maha Viharaya. It was the place where the Mahavamsa was written by Ven. Mahanama Thero. Next we set off to the Jetavanaramaya. It was a massive stupa that towered above our heads.
We could see the remains of plaster that was being put. The pinnacle of the stupa was chipped.

We went to the Kuttam Pokuna or the Twin Ponds next. The staircase differed from the first pond to the second.
Finally we visited the enormous stupa named Ruwanweliseya. This was named after the tree goddess Swarnamali who requested King Dutugemunu to name the stupa after her.
After that visit, my very exciting trip ended. I thank my dear family from the bottom of my heart for taking me to the ancient city of Anuradhapura.

The Dinosaur World
I woke up and yawned. “Where am I?” said I, wonderingly. I looked around. The first thing that met my eyes astounded me very much. It was a giant Apatosaurus standing on its hind legs to reach a branch of an enormous tree. “Huh, an Apatosaurus?” I asked myself. “But it was alive in the Jurassic period. That was about 201 – 145 million years ago!”

I hoisted myself up to standing position and walked ahead passing the giant Apatosaurus munching away loudly. After I went a few yards I froze. There in front of my very eyes was a Diplodocus stretching its long head to eat leaves out of a tree.
I gasped, “Yet another Dinosaur from the Jurassic period! Good thing I didn’t meet any carnivores”. And so I walked along passing a Massospondylus, Stegosaurus, Camarasaurus and a Brachiosaurus. All scary but harmless. I sat down and watched these dinosaurs wandering around.

Finally I stood up to go. But before I could even raise a leg a terrible roar rose up. All the herbivores backed away. I turned around to face a carnivore. In fact, it was an Allosaurus. And guess what? It was heading right towards me. I couldn’t move a single muscle. My legs refused to run. I closed my eyes tightly and waited for it to gobble me up.
But instead I felt a little bite on my hand. I woke up with a start. What’s this? It was a stupid mosquito sucking my blood. “Phew, it was a dream after all.” I thought, resting my head on the pillow again.

A rainy day
It was Sunday, weekend free time for me after schooling for five days. But unfortunately it rained a lot the whole day. My plan to play with my friends became just a dream for me.
I felt lazy and sleepy.
After some time I woke up and had a great idea to spend this rainy day. My lovely sister and I made colourful paper boats and we put them to the water in our garden which was like a large river.
There we had great fun. The falling raindrops were like crystals to me. Once I tried to catch them they vanished. Like on the other days the sky didn’t have beautiful clouds. It was full of dark black clouds.
But for me I didn’t feel how the time was passing with cool wind, thundering and lightning, Sunday ended.

An unforgettable evening with my friends
It was 20th Saturday. It was a special day for me because one of my friend’s birthday party was on that day. So I bought a present and went there. She had invited all her closest friends. After all of them arrived, we went outside and played the game – ‘Stone-breaking.’ It was very enjoyable.

Then it was time to cut her birthday cake. It was a lovely cake with the shape of a Hello Kitty. After we cut her cake we went into her room. We unwrapped all the presents. We also read the wishes in the birthday cards. Then we watched a very funny movie called ‘Wimpy Kid’s Diary,’ while tasting lots of potato chips. Then again we went out and played ‘Hide and Seek.’ After that we were tired so we came inside and we switched off the lights and watched a horror film.
Then her mother called us to come and have dinner. It was very delicious. Then we had a visit in her room. There was a lovely collection of about ten guitars. We tried each one of them and snapped selfies. At last we took lots of snapshots to keep as memories of that day. It was a very enjoyable and also an unforgettable evening that I spent with my friends.
