Looking into investing in a healthier new year and to finally do justice by those already forgotten ‘be active’ resolutions? join the St. Thomas Preparatory School community made up of old boys, students, teachers and supporters who will be taking to the streets of Colombo on January 28 celebrating their “Prep Walk and Fun Fair”, an excursion for a cause.
The boys, old and young, are embracing the “Prep culture” of celebrating diversity whilst holding on to their common ideals of camaraderie. The walk is aimed at funding a renovation of “Fortrose”, a building which has housed laughter, memories and the pitter patter of the feet of hostellers from the school’s inception in 1938.

The boys of St. Thomas Prep nostalgically remember “Fortrose” as a building which set the identity of their beloved school. St. Thomas Prep is known for its small student body hosting under a 1000 students, a fact that the boys say only makes them more loyal and integrated in each other’s lives. Fortrose holds sentimental value in this community as a sanctuary for the hide and seek games the boys would play, an escape from the stress of mundane education and sneaking in wholesome meals from the hostel refectory.

The walk will commence from Galle Face and will continue past the school along Galle Road turning into Dharmapala Mawatha. It will continue along Perahera Mawatha, eventually turning into Rotunda Gardens and finally bringing them back to their alma mater. Prep walk will take place in the afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ,a perfect time for a leisurely stroll in the evening, with the event ending in a fun fair which will carry on until midnight.
The festivities are aimed at bringing together individuals from various walks of life, some in honour of Fortrose and others for a day of good fun because if anyone knows how to throw a party its “our boys” chuckles secretary of the Old Boys Association Kishan De Silva.

If the thought of exercise is too strenuous, fear not!The Fun Fair is aimed to please the masses with a gathering of musical performances and talent segments, a thrilling horror house and much more. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for a sea of wayfarers this January as St. Thomas Prep take a stroll through Colombo and paints the streets Blue and White.
