Uni students show they have style
‘Stylish Marketer’ was a night of oomph and pizzazz on December 15 at the University of Kelaniya. Organised by the Future Marketers Association, the student body of the University’s Department of Marketing Management, the show combined flamboyant fashion, sensational modelling and dynamic entertainment.
The contest kicked off with a select pick of contestants from local universities around Sri Lanka – 20 male and female models, who sashayed their way down the catwalk highlighting the work of 10 designers.
Held for the seventh successive year, the event was abuzz with excitement, energy and camaraderie as the students proved that no task is too big to tackle. The event is aimed at unearthing “hidden talents” of the Sri Lankan youth, whilst developing the students soft skills with exposure to the commercial world.
As the evening came to an end, Priyanwadha Adhikari from the Department of Fashion Design and Product Development carried away the coveted prize for best designer. Pawani Vithanage of the Department of Accountancy was titled best female model while the award for best male model went to Isanka Amarasinghe of the Department of Business Commerce.
The first runner-up in the male model category was awarded to Shiran Silva while Nadeera Ranaweera was similarly placed in the female model category. In the Designer category proud students of the University of Moratuwa, first runner-up Lakni Edirisuriya and second runner-up Hansi Bulathgaha were all smiles as they received their awards.
