Cheerfulness

A cheerful person has the appearance of happiness. A cheerful person speaks pleasant words and he makes people laugh and makes them happy. A cheerful person has a feeling that he would be successful and that something good will happen.
If a cheerful person knocks his knee on a chair he will not cry out loudly in pain but he will rub his leg and bear the pain and still be happy.
A beggar who is cheerful will be happy even if he doesn’t have money. Some people have a lot of money but they are not cheerful.
When cheerful people are in a country, they would make many others in that country happy. Then most of the people in the world would be cheerful.
If a cheerful person loses something for example a ball, he will try to find it and not be sad.
A cheerful person will crack jokes, laugh and make others laugh too.
Sometimes if you are sick it is difficult but you can still be cheerful. If you feel that you are going to get well, you will get well quickly if you are cheerful.

Dinosaurs were a type of reptile.
They lived around 200 million years ago. There were different types of dinosaurs. My favourite type is the Spinosaurus.
The first dinosaur fossils were recognised in the 19th century.

My brother
He’s a bother
Little brother
Sometimes nice
Sometimes horrible

He’s seven
He never does things in a line
He does everything I do
He’s a copy of mine

He knows every song that I know
He’s a trouble sometimes
He will mess-up everything
He often tells me lies

Little brother
What a trouble
Oh, I like if he wasn’t around the house
But he is a part of my life

An unforgettable trip
It was August 29, 2016 and my family and myself got up early in the morning. My sisters and I were excited as we
were going on a trip to Nuwara Eliya!

My cousins too were on their way to Nuwara Eliya. We stopped at the
‘Thirst Aid Station’ for breakfast and then continued our journey. While we were climbing the mountains we felt the climate change, the air was getting colder and everything was covered in mist. After a few hours we reached our destination.

We had lunch together once my cousins came and then decided to go to Victoria Park. All the children were very excited. We enjoyed all the rides there especially the Ferris wheel and didn’t want to leave the park. We then went to Gregory’s Lake. We went on a boat ride and had lots of fun. Then we went horse riding, had a cup of tea and returned to the hotel.

The next morning, we got up very early, had breakfast and went to Horton Plains. We had brought backpacks with us which had lots of water and snacks. We walked and walked for hours and finally reached World’s End. The sight was beautiful. There were tea estates and greenery everywhere. We were able to see Balangoda from high above and to our surprise the mist cleared. It was very steep and we were scared to go near the edge because of the steep slope. We took many pictures together and then walked back. We returned back to the hotel exhausted.

On the last day of our trip, we visited a Strawberry Farm. We had strawberry milkshakes there and bought fresh strawberries to take back to Colombo. We said goodbye to Nuwara Eliya and sadly returned back to Colombo. It was an unforgettable trip.

Reading is fun
There is a famous saying, “Reading maketh a full man.” Reading is one of the four main skills. There are many resources to read, such as novels, newspapers, magazines, notices and posters. Some people gift books.
Also some people buy books regularly.
In modern society people are very fortunate to get many facilities like e-mail, and internet. We can store them easily unlike books. Also we feel happy to read them because we can get images, videos etc. When we read a book or magazine we can’t get videos or images.

Our trip to Hambantota
We went to Hambantota in November for the long weekend. We went to the birds’ park and we saw Macaws, Cockatoos and many more beautiful birds. We went to the open zoo and saw lions, camels, yaks, hippopotamus and many more wild animals.
We went to the animal safari by bus. We gave food to the elephant. Hambantota is so special for peacocks and for the first time in my life I saw peacocks dancing and flying.
Finally, we had a look at the hot water wells. The water was naturally hot. There were seven wells. We spent our long weekend
happily and usefully.

If I get wings
If I get wings I think I am the luckiest girl in the world, because I can fly faraway and see the seven wonders and the famous places in the world. I can fly above the clouds and fly faster than aeroplanes for travelling to other countries.

I also can escape from disasters. If I get wings I can eat tasty fruits. I don’t need to have a passport to visit another country. I use my wings for many useful things and I enjoy my life as well.

My favourite singer
My favourite singer is Michael Jackson. He was an American singer, dancer, songwriter and actor. His contributions to music, dance and fashion made him a global popular figure.

He was born on August 29, 1958. He was the eighth child of the Jackson family. Michael made his professional debut in 1964 with his brothers as a member of ‘Jackson 5’ and began his solo career in 1971. Thriller, Billie Jean, Black or White, Earth Song, Man in the Mirror, Heal the World etc., are some of his songs.

They are my favourite songs. He had won so many awards, more than 120. He is recognized as the Most Successful Entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. But he got so many problems. They were all grist to the mill for tabloid editors, who revelled in the eccentricities, while glossing over Michael’s humanitarian and philanthropic credentials.

Michael is my favourite singer because he made very beautiful music with powerful, meaningful and attractive lyrics. I like his new dancing techniques like moonwalk, toe stand, robot moves and the lean. Another reason why I like him is he helped children and the people who live in the dark. He changed the world with his music. Unfortunately, he passed away on June 25, 2009 because of a cardiac arrest.
But he is an immortal person, the
‘king of pop’ forever.
