Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik took the music industry and fans alike by surprise when they announced the release of their duet ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ on 9th December. The electropop track is featured on the soundtrack of the film Fifty Shades Darker, which is to be released in 2017. The duet is co-penned by Taylor Swift, Sam Dew and Jack Antonoff.

Meghan Trainor has been forced to cancel her remaining concerts for this year. The 22 year old ‘All About The Bass’ hitmaker has halted her live shows on doctors orders, to rest her voice. She posted the news on social media and apologised to her fans with the promise to be back in 2017.

Meanwhile Sir Elton John as also forced to cancel his concert in Dubai on 15th December as he was suffering with the flu. He has rescheduled the concert for 20th January 2017.

Sir Mick Jagger became a father for the eight time. The Rolling Stones frontman’s girl friend Melanie Hamrick 29 gave birth to a baby boy on Dec 8 in New York. The Rolling Stones had another opportunity to celebrate as their new album ‘Blue & Lonesome’ topped the UK album chart. It’s the first for the iconic band after 20 years.

After One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson lost his 43 year old mother Johannah Deakin to cancer on 7th December, all the members of the band including former band member Zayn Malik have posted messages of support to Tomlinson. News of the death was released by the family on Dec 9. But the sad news did not stop Louis performing his debut solo single ‘Just Hold On’ with Steve Akoi on the X-Factor finals on Dec10 for which he got a standing ovation. The competition itself was won by Matt Terry who later also sang his single ‘When Christmas Comes Along’.

Clean Bandit has secured a fifth consecutive week for their song ‘Rockabye’ on the UK singles chart.

It now surpasses their longest No: 1 ‘Rather Be’ from 2014. Leading the vocals on the tropical beat hit are Sean Paul and Anne-Marie. This week ‘Rockabye’ had 70,000 combined copies sold.

With Christmas around the corner, Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ returned to the UK top 10 after nine years As it climbed from 23 to No: 6. Perhaps Saara Alto’s performance of the song on the live X-Factor semi finals triggered interest. In 1994 the song peaked at No: 2.

Rag ‘N’ Bone Man scored his debut top 10 on the UK with ‘Human’ as it rose from 11 to No: 8. The song is by 31 year old English singer Rag whose real name is Rory Graham. Two factors that helped the song’s surge is him winning the BRIT People’s Choice award for 2017 and X-Factor participant Emily Middlemas performing it. ‘Human’ is a touching, soulful track with a powerful punchy baseline. The song is the debut release from the forthcoming album of the same name.
