Cruises keep sailing into Colombo packed with tourists and the latest was the inaugural ship of Dream Cruises, Genting Dream a Hong Kong-based carrier that would be stationed at Guangzhou, China and is said to be the first Asian luxury cruise liner.

Dream Cruises President Thatcher Brown told reporters on deck last  week that Colombo was their fifth call and noted that being committed to hospitality they were offering lifestyle products to its guests.

He observed that there was a growth momentum of the cruise market in Asia with competition set to make them stronger in an industry that is currently recording double digit growth.

The vessel would operate to Asian destinations like Singapore, Vietnam and her dual homeport of Hong Kong and Guangzhou, he explained. The vessel has the capacity to cater to 3400 guests and 2000 crew giving it the highest guest to staff ratio of any Asia Pacific based ship, the company stated.

The vessel also made history with 1300 disembarking passengers and 1200 embarking passengers, Sathsindhu Ltd, agents for the cruise liner stated in a media release.

Genting Hong Kong with over 23 years of Asian cruise industry experience and is also the founding of Star Cruises.

The company boasts of a portfolio of cruise brands namely Star Cruises for the Asian contemporary market, Crystal Cruises for the global luxury segment and Dream Cruises for the high-end segment in Asia. Dream Cruises commenced the epic voyage travelling from Germany to Asia with visits to India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Vietnam and would be bound for her dual homeports of Hong Kong and Guangzhou before she prepares for her maiden voyage and offering Vietnam destinations.

The 18-deck vessel has more than 35 restaurants and bars catering to the Chinese and other Asian palette with a number of activities onboard featuring a 610 metre wraparound promenade; a portfolio of world class speakers on specialist subjects; swimming pools, water slides, play rooms, rock climbing wall and mini golf and a spa, beauty salon, barbershop and fitness centre.
