My school celebrates 125 years
My school is Musaeus College and it is one of the leading Buddhist girls’ schools in Colombo. It was founded by a German lady called Marie Musaeus Higgins on November 15, 1891.
A 4 ½ acre land in Cinnamon Gardens was donated by a gentleman called Mr. William de Abrew to build a Buddhist girls’ school and
Mrs. Higgins, with the help of Colonel Henry Steele Olcott founded the school.
She started the school with 12 students in a little mud hut.
She was the principal and the sole teacher at the beginning. That loving
‘Sudu Amma’ passed away on July 10, 1926 after serving 37 long years.
This year my school celebrated
its 125th birthday on November 15.
Throughout this year we have celebrations and we had a huge ballet show by the primary students and several religious ceremonies. We also participated in the 125th Anniversary Walk on October 8.
I am lucky to be studying at Musaeus College when she is celebrating her 125th birthday.
I love my school very much.
Long live Mother Musaeus!

Harry Potter
Harry Potter is a famous book series written by J. K. Rowling. The books revolve around a young wizard named Harry Potter and his adventures. He goes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and has befriended many people there, fellow students, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and the gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid just to name a few. There are several other characters such as Lord Voldemort the antagonist, Draco Malfoy the school bully and Harry’s cruel non-magic relatives the Dursleys.
There are seven books in the series, namely, ‘The Philosopher’s Stone’, ‘The Chamber of Secrets’, ‘The Prisoner of Azkaban’, ‘The Goblet of Fire’, ‘The Order of the Phoenix’, ‘The Half-Blood Prince’ and ‘The Deathly Hallows’. All seven books have been adapted into films.
I like the first two books especially the second one because of the flying car. I don’t know much about the other five – yet!

My story of Children’s Day
When I got up in the morning I checked the calendar and it was Children’s Day. I jumped up on the bed and my brother said I was like a bungee jumper from another planet. I told my brother Nasir that it was Children’s Day and the both of us were so happy.
We went downstairs but my parents didn’t wish us. We just had our breakfast and they told us to go and study.
My brother and I were downcast and went to our room and mournfully started to study. We thought that it was the worst day of our lives. We ate lunch and our favourite cousins came over to our place but it wasn’t as fun as usual.
We were all sitting on the bed and sulking. Then our parents said that they had some work and told us to get ready as we were going along. I had a teeny weeny nap and when I opened my eyes we were at McDonalds. We were so happy! All our parents wished us a very “Happy Children’s Day” and we all went inside to play.
There we got the biggest surprise, as there was no one except for the waiters and waitresses. All of them wished us and led us into a huge room filled with balloons, food and gifts. We couldn’t believe it was a party only for all of us. We had so much fun and when we came home we got even more gifts.
When I was lying down on my comfy pillow I thought, “No matter how many days come and go, our parents have something special in store for us. More than anything we could ever imagine.” So always love your parents.
Happy Children’s Day!

Value of trees
Trees are an integral part of our environment. Both man and animals cannot survive without trees. We get food, medicine, timber and shelter from trees. Trees help to protect the natural beauty of forests.
We get the most needed rain because of trees. Trees preserve moisture. Trees on the hillsides stop soil erosion and prevent destructive earthslips. The soil becomes fertile because of trees. Trees produce oxygen which is essential for life. Some people cut down trees in a careless manner. If we cut down trees in this manner, our country will become a desert before long. Trees are very important to us.

A pleasant dream I had
This is a dream which was most pleasant of all the dreams which I have dreamt!
I was in a deep sleep, at once I heard so much melodic music. I got up, what a beautiful surprise
I saw. It was the land of wonders. It was a beautiful place full of butterflies, flowers, fruits and many more marvellous things.
While I was looking at these wonderful things and walking forward, I found a fruit garden which was full of ripe, juicy fruits. From these I plucked some fruits and put in a bag I had. Then I went to the next side of the garden. There I saw a chocolate stream flowing from a high mountain. It was strawberry flavoured chocolate. It was my favourite flavour and the mountain was made of cookies.
I went near the stream and tasted some chocolate from the stream. Someone was tapping at me so I waked up from sleep. It was my mother. What a dream it was. Still I was extremely sorry to stop my dream halfway.

Rights to elephants
For many years, people have been deforesting the forests of this world. Due to this happening, jungle animals have lost their habitats as well as food. Now especially, elephants have returned to their homes, which are now owned by humans as villages and plantations. And when these mighty creatures come to this bare land, people think that, the elephants have come to their homes, which is actually the other way round. People shoot the elephants and kill them, wound them and this also leads them to be deaf.
About 200 elephants are killed each year in Sri Lanka and that has become a major problem to the extinction of these endemic species. It has to be stopped immediately or else the future generation might not know who these mighty creatures, which had once walked on this earth were.
If we stop this problem, we can save every animal from being extinct. Let’s try our best to protect them.
