Girl Guide and Senior Guide branches of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association conducted an All Island Joint Service Project from August 27 – 30, 2016 in Jaffna under the theme “Friendship through Service” with the participation of 135 Guides, Senior Guides and Guiders.

The project was conducted under three phases, namely, cleaning the Nallur Kovil premises and Perumal Kovil premises in Nallur during the kovil festival and cleaning the premises of Nagadeepa Temple in Nainatheevu. This annual service project which is usually held in Adams Peak was shifted to the Northern part of the island this year with the aim of bringing about reconciliation and religious harmony.

The participants also visited places of interest in Jaffna including the Public Library, the Fort, Dambakolapatuna, Keerimalai Pond and the Denzil Kobbekaduwa Memorial. Other interesting activities were the participation in the kite show at Kankasanthurai, a boat ride to Nainatheevu and shopping at the Jaffna market.
