Several Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) on trade and investment have been signed with countries by the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) to boost trade potential this year.  “We have signed an MOU with AMANA centre in Karachi in Pakistan to develop a fully fledged institute for entrepreneurship development in Sri Lanka,” said FCCISL President Sarath Kahapalaarachchi at a media briefing held at the Cinnamon Grand Lakeside Hotel in Colombo recently.  ”Under this MOU the Pakistan Institute will transfer their well tested courses free of charge to FCCISL while undertaking training and development of our facility at a nominal cost.” He said in January 2016 two trade delegations were sent to Indian Pharma in Bangalore and another to the Exportex in Madhya Pradesh India,

The FCCISL was represented by a team of 40 participants at the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry meeting held in Kerala where useful views were exchanged between the two sides.  Another milestone of the FCCISL calendar was the hosting of a seminar on training of trainers on the subject of import and export procedure. This was done in collaboration with SAARC Chamber to promote gender equality in trade.  Another noteworthy event was the visit to Japan by the Past President of the FCCISL Ajith Wattuhewa and a team of businessmen to set up the Japan -Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry based in Okinawa Japan where the Japanese authority had accepted the application for setting up the chamber. The move is expected to boost trade and investment links with the Japanese business community.  (JJ)
