Sri Lanka Schools Shooting Sports Colours awarding ceremony 2015 was held at the Colombo Nalanda College, Auditorium conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Shooting Sports Association.

225 shooters both girls and boys were awarded colours for their performances at the 2015 Sri Lanka Schools Shooting championship. Shooters from 189 schools took part at the event where a high standard of marksmanship was exhibited by the up and coming young shooters.

This is the only schools’ sports body in Sri Lanka which award colours yearly for its best shooters.

Initially introduced shooting to schools by the Nalanda College Rifle Shooters Association in 1990 and Individual Qualifying competition in Air Rifle and Air Pistol (10 metres) shooting for school students by the NCRS was held in 1992. The backing of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Inter Schools Air Rifle and Air Pistol (10 mts) shooting competition in Sri Lanka was pioneered by NCRSA in 1994.

In the history of the Sri Lanka Sports Shooting the then Principal of Nalanda College D.G. Sumanasekera along with a set of old Nalandians attached to the Sri Lanka Army backed Nalanda College Rifle Shooting Association.

On the performance of the 2015 Schools Shooting Championship a team of shooters will be selected to represent Sri Lanka Schools in three international competitions this year. The first event will be the 6th Children of Asian International Sports Games to be held in Yakutsk, Russia from July 6 to 9 where a four member team comprising of two boys and two boys will be sent.

The two girl shooters are Krishneetha Vasudevan of Stafford International School, Colombo and Chatuni Imaya Kandawinna of Sirimavo Balika Vidyalaya while Banuka Sandeep of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa and Dulkith Navindu of Dharmapala MV Bandarawela will compete in the boys events. They will take part in the Boys and Girls Air Pistol and Air Rifle 10mts. event.

Kithsiri Liyanagamage will accompany the team as Manager and D.I.G. Gamini Walgama will be the coach on tour.
